About River Cycleway
Our mission is to deliver sustainable transport options for cycling and walking along urban rivers and other waterways.
Who are we?
Anna Hill and David Nixon co-invented the concept of a floating cycling and walking transport infrastructure project in 2008. They established the company as a business with an environmental mission to tackle challenges faced by urban environments such as air pollution, congestion, environmental degradation, climate change, and flood risk.
Anna Hill
Anna Hill is the Co-Founder & CEO of River Cycleway Consortium Ltd. (RCCL), the design innovation company behind the Thames Deckway. She has more than 17 years of experience spanning the design, engineering, education, and international space industries.
David Nixon
David Nixon is the Co-Founder and space architect who co-founded Future Systems with Jan Kaplicky in the 1970s. He has thirty years of experience working in the challenging spaceflight and space exploration field in the USA and Europe.
Values
Our vision began by exploring ways to make cycling and walking an enjoyable hazard free transport option and to protect the health of both people and planet. In exploring the use of rivers to achieve these goals, we became acutely aware of the range of interconnected challenges that could be addressed through the use of floating infrastructure.
We set about to incorporate bold human and life centred design with systems thinking, embracing the principles of a circular economy, promoting sustainable community cohesion and renewable energy generation developing this unique offering. With vision and determination to succeed we have created a powerful disruptive engineering and smart cities solution.
Supporters and Collaborators
Our plans are adventurous and transformative so we have assembled a world-class team with Hugh Broughton on architecture and planning, and Royal HaskoningDHV providing transport, engineering and environmental expertise with a focus on the river Thames environment.
Awards
The Thames Deckway has been recognised and supported by a range of public and private institutions.
